Things I got for my birthday before I woke up:

A giant boulder for the front yard of the new house

A new neck for my violin (but I have to install it myself)

A pedal board power supply that is also itself a pedal for some reason

I have never been so disappointed to wake up and not own a boulder. I complained to my brother immediately.

Since job 1 is wiring the new house for CAT6, starting to research #DANTE. We want streaming and recording from the living room at least, controlled from the office.

We have hardly any legacy analog gear to integrate and don't plan to get any--we do have a crapton of UAD plugins (won in a raffle) so we're looking into Apollo hardware for the DSP--but we are starting from close to scratch. Any recommends for getting spun up on modern networked audio?

We are driving to GA to visit my mom and step-dad. Last Easter when we visited, I'd just finished school and was at loose ends and they suggested trying to work for DOGE and that turned into politics and I may have said I'd have voted for Hunter Biden (or Joe's dog that bit the secret service agent) over the current incumbent and I love that my reflexively republican parents don't understand at all but accept that I feel that way

Switching to gravity bombs from cruise missiles doesn't necessarily mean they will be less precise. It doesn't take a lot to convert a "dumb" bomb to a smart one by adding a GPS package.

Of course, precise is not necessarily accurate: you can precisely hit the wrong target, as is likely what happened with the school.

In 2016-7, I provided "intelligence support to targeting" from an HQ in Kuwait for the counter-ISIS coalition, i.e. helping them decide where to strike next.

40-60 hrs of work in every strike before briefing generals. Painstaking, tedious work--which is "wasted" if the target turns out to be, e.g. a school.

They sit in a room and brief dozens of targets over 3 hrs. A 1-star would yea or nay, but it was her boss who had final say, and he almost always approved.

I found a #Blackstar ID:Core 20 stereo #guitar amp, current release, for 75 bucks on Friday. Retails $250 new. It was missing only a power adapter (which just arrived). In addition to a left handed guitar book, my student shall have a loaner amp for the electric guitar she already has and really wants to learn.

If the snow cancels tonight's lessons I shall be supremely displeased.
